A Story of Legacy
Since 1850, Château Maucamps has cultivated more than just vines : it has carried forward a vision, a heritage, and a passion.
A Story of Legacy
Nestled in the heart of the Haut-Médoc, Château Maucamps has been far more than a vineyard since the 19th century: it’s a family story, a proud legacy, and a testament to an enduring passion for great wine.
The estate was first mentioned in the prestigious 1850 edition of Cocks & Féret, the definitive guide for Bordeaux wine lovers.
In 1954, a remarkable new chapter began, thanks to an extraordinary woman: Gisèle Tessandier, née Thomas de Dancourt. A descendant of French nobility with a visionary and independent spirit, Gisèle acquired Château Maucamps on January 12, 1954. At a time when few women owned wine estates, she stood out for her courage and determination to restore the domaine to its former glory.
Tragically, her dream was short-lived. Gisèle passed away on June 13 of the same year, leaving behind a property marked by her vision. Her husband, Monsieur Jacques Tessandier, took over the estate and, in the midst of a viticultural crisis, decided to uproot 15 hectares of vines—thus preparing Château Maucamps to face the challenges of the future.

A Haven of Preserved Nature
Spanning 90 hectares, the estate strikes a delicate balance between wine production and biodiversity preservation. While 22.5 hectares are dedicated to vineyards, the remainder of the estate consists of meadows, forests, and flowering fallows, carefully maintained to protect the environment and promote rich ecosystems.
This choice to cultivate only the best plots allows for the production of grapes of optimal quality while maintaining a space where wildlife and plant life coexist in harmony. The meadows shelter a variety of local species, the flowering fallows attract essential pollinators, and the forests help preserve the ecological balance of our region.
